Dallas, TX - New analysis of data from the North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy Trial (NASCET) suggests that patients who have a stroke affecting the left, but not the right, side of their brain have an increased risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD) over the next five years.

Cleveland, OH - Killip class is a powerful independent predictor of all-cause mortality in patients with non-ST-elevation ACS and should receive particular attention in these patients, a new study finds. Other predictors of mortality in ACS patients were found to be age, heart rate, systolic blood pressure, and ST depression.

Chicago, IL - New observational data from the Danish Nurse Study show an increased risk of stroke with hormone replacement therapy (HRT), but the risk appeared to be limited to hypertensive women. Normotensive subjects showed no such increase in risk.
